Our Mission

The Sons of Hedin Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing global awareness of Greater Central Asia. In the spirit of the Swedish explorer and committed scholar Sven Hedin, we aim to provide a forum of understanding, highlighting the innovative efforts to enhance basic education, expand economic opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of the Central Asian people

Our Foundation aims to enhance global understanding of Greater Central Asia through the use of journalism and online social collaboration. Our organization strives to become a valuable asset for interested individuals, non-profits, and potential donors seeking to further their knowledge of the cultures and countries of the region. Drawing knowledge from our own experiences, we realize an open dialogue on important events and issues presented in an easily understood manner enhances understanding.

Our frequent reports incorporate both photography and video to highlight the uniqueness of Central Asian and the development challenges facing this region. In addition to the regular, culture and development reports, we publish occasional directories profiling international and Central Asian NGOs.

We welcome submissions and proposals for articles on topics related to the Greater Central Asia Region.

The Sons of Hedin Foundation is currently based in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan.

Our Contributors

Author D. Dalton BennettD. Dalton Bennett has studied post conflict reconstruction and international development focusing on local capacity building and sustainability. Additionally, He has worked in Capital Hill and in the private sector providing research on foreign development assistance. Dalton has done extensive field research in Central America on religious communities and documented NGO activity. He has spent over a year in China, studying language in Beijing and Shanghai. He is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and holds a degree in Government.

Writer Baylen ForcierBaylen L. Forcier is a cultural filmmaker and writer who is interested in studying the human cost of globalization throughout the developed world. In addition, Baylen is an expert on new media and has researched extensively on the use of social networking sites by civil society groups. He holds a degree in Journalism from Virginia Commonwealth University and has worked on several documentaries. He has worked for the Public Broadcasting Service, Virginia’s General Assembly and RVA Magazine.

Student Contributors

Nargiza Ryskulova is a junior studying Mass Communications and Journalism at the  American University of Central Asia.  Nargiza  is an editor of the university newspaper and member of the university television production -AUCA TV. She has been awarded the Future Leaders Exchange scholarship and has also participated in the 2010 International Youth Leadership Conference in Prague. Currently Nargiza is a contributing writer for the local blog platform Kloop.kg.
